SIA (Anti-Immigration Information System) PDF Print E-mail

The SIA (Anti-Illegal-Immigration Information System) is the Ministry of Interior’s information system which, through integrated and advanced procedures, is specifically dedicated to the management of all its provisions and activities for deterring illegal immigration by sea.

SIA is composed of a set of operating modules for the collection, processing, distribution and analysis of all data related to illegal immigration events.

All information is gathered and acquired by the Main Central System whether automatically, from legacy systems belonging to the Institutions/Command Organizations involved, or manually through data inputs effected by the operators of the Operational Coordination Room.

The system is composed of peripheral sub-systems located at the Naval Squadron headquarters of the Italian Navy and at the general headquarters of both Customs and Tax Police and Port Authority – intended for acquisition, filtering, processing and dispatch to the “Central System” – for aggregation purposes of data related to “disembarkation events” respectively managed by each of the parties concerned.

The system also includes an intelligent module for decision-making purposes, which provides the operator with intervention schemes (prearranged operational procedures) whenever illegal immigration events occur.
Through a suitable, dedicated technological infrastructure, all activities being conducted to combat illegal immigration by sea are monitored and coordinated, and a permanent and constant NRT (Near Real Time) flow of data and information may take place between the various institutional parties involved in deterring such phenomenon.
