The Project pertains to the development of the Regional Environmental Information System of the Campania Region Environmental Protection Company (ARPAC) and the installation of the network for air quality monitoring in the surroundings of waste treatment plants of the Campania Region. The Information System caters for the governance requirements of the regional territory and other planning, programming, coordination and surveillance activities in the context of environment protection interventions under the scope of responsibilities of the Campania Regional Government, in view of the rational management of environmental data and information of national, regional and territorial interest. The programme for the development of the monitoring network on the quality of air in the surroundings of waste treatment plants of the Campania Region involves the installation of 41 air and weather monitoring stations, 2 mobile laboratories, variable message signs (VMSs), and 11 fully automated data acquisition and processing centres. The station cabinets are located in the various areas where refuse-derived fuel (RDF) plants and waste-to-energy incinerators are located (Acerra and Santa Maria La Fossa), while the 2 mobile laboratories are dedicated to periodical monitoring campaigns whenever a number of spot measurements are required in, e.g., acute pollution episodes due to natural and/or anthropic causes. Vitrociset provides maintenance and technical support for the fixed and mobile stations equipment and the data acquisition and processing system situated in the Campania Region for a 4-year term. |
